What is SKA?
The Square Kilometre Array (SKA) is a new generation radio telescope that will be over fifty times as sensitive as the best present-day instruments. It will give astronomers remarkable insights into the formation of the early Universe, including the emergence of the first stars, galaxies and other structures. This will shed light on the birth, and eventual death, of the cosmos.
Building such a telescope will require vigorous technological developments in computing, communications and radio frequency devices.
Internationally the SKA is made up of a consortium representing 17 countries, including Australia and countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas.
What is ASKAP?
The Australian SKA Pathfinder (ASKAP) is a new radio telescope that will provide an important test-bed for SKA technology as well as being a world-leading telescope in its own right.
The telescope will be designed and built by Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) in collaboration with leading overseas astronomers and engineers.
Australian SKA Pathfinder Industry (ASKAP) Opportunities Register 2008-2011
The ASKAP Industry Opportunities Register 2008-2011 has been produced by the CSIRO-Australia Telescope National Facility to provide information on the industry inputs required to deliver the ASKAP project - to enable businesses to identify opportunities and plan for their potential involvement. The Register is available at the CSIRO ASKAP Industry web page.
Australian SKA Industry Capability Directory
A directory has been established to showcase Australian companies with capabilities relevant to the development of the SKA project. You can view the register and register Australian companies through the website Australian SKA Industry Capability Directory.
